If you decide to go ahead and write the letter, (and I hope you don't for your sake) include this sentence. "This is an attempt to collect a debt. Any information obtained will be used solely for this purpose."

4. Try this: Dear Sirs, With regards to your outstanding account balance of (xxx), we / I hereby formally request remittance of said amount immediately. Your account is in arrears and has been delinquent since (date). As creditors we are formally requesting immediate payment of said amount, or else legal action shall be taken to recoup these funds. Please respond immediately, to prevent legal escalation of this matter. Sincerely, (your name, or company name). Try something like that, if you want, adjust the template for your needs.
