Debt Collection Process

I am in the process of fixing up my credit, how do I write a letter to the collection companies?

If I want to pay my debts but in return I want them to take it off my report or say something good so that next time I apply for credit I won't be denied. Will it say payed in full or what? Or will it still say placed for collection. I have mostley medical but I want to wipe my credit clean. I want to buy a house and I do not want any thing on my credit to give me a high intrest rate or a run around I want them to look at it and say APPROVED righ off the bat, but I do not know exactley what to say because I have heard not to admit the debt is yours are there any websites that have letters written where I can just put in my info and send away? Help In other words what should I ask for when writing one of these letters in return for my payment I just want my credit to say something good vs placed for collection or settled or should I just ask it to be removed?

  1. Unfortunately the best way is to pay off your debts. Most of them will remove from credit report as if it never happened, IF YOU ASK THEM TO....you will need to contact the companies or the credit agencies they have sent your info to.
  2. Simple tell them that you would want the item removed from your credit report and are willing to pay $___ to expedite removal. Just use clear, simply language. Watch out for some of the "sample" letters which try to use legal sounding language and make unnecessary threats. If most of your old debt is medical, they will settle for 75% to 50% (the older the debt, the lower the settlement). Of course lump sum gets the best deals and any payment plan has to be short term. Get the creditor to sign and return a copy of your settlement offer, showing they accept it. Don't give them access to your bank account.
