Debt Collection Process

Debtors Prisons are back!!! Do you know that the recent changes in the bankruptcy laws have put YOU at risk?

Debtors prisons were here before but only for poor non custodial parents who could not pay support(those that could pay did before being jailed) And even those non biological parents that DNA had excluded but the court still imposed support for the benefit of the child(about 30% nationally jailed and NOT the biological parent). This carries a felony conviction which also takes away your right to vote(among other rights). NOW you can be hit with the same contempt charge for being too poor to pay your credit off. This can also put YOU in jail with the same Felony conviction.. How do you feel about the new industry in the United States being Jail construction and maintainence to house all the poor that will now be classified as felons(and that includes you who have difficulty paying your bills now)? After already losing freedoms through the patriot act are we now at risk of losing our liberty? I may be wrong but I thought this was the United States of America. Our forefathers disgraced..

  1. I seriously doubt your freeedoms have been lost or even curtailed due to the Patriot Act. How have you been harmed? Had your house searched? Had your library records pulled? No? Well, guess what. Even under the strictest interpretation of the law, YOUR freedoms have not been abridged one iota. The government does not run around willy nilly saying "Let's go spy on so-and-so and see what pops up." The ONLY times the do that is when OTHER EVIDENCE points to their suspected involvement in terrorism. As far as the new bankruptcy laws, I think they are a good thing. If you can't afford to pay the bill, STOP CHARGING!! Surely, some peoples' situation changes, and those are the people who should take advantage of the bankruptcy code. However, if you just charge up a bundle without budgeting and the bills catch up all of a sudden, I have no sympathy for you. Why should everyone else have to pay outrageous interest to help pay for this? Cause the losses get passed along to you and me, my friend. Chase Bank doesn't just say, "Oh, well. Better luck next time."
  2. There are no Debtors Prisons here. You cannot be arrested or jailed for debt. This is a pure hateful rant. Stop lying.
  3. Where, exactly, did you get this information? The contempt I am assuming you are talking about is 'contempt of court' which is acts which wantonly or excessively disrupt the normal process of a court hearing. I can't see that coming into play in a debt case unless someone is deliberatly ignoring a court order. Then they should go to jail. As far as the biological parent thing, how many of these were divorced spouces who adopted their spouces child or children and then shirked their responsibility? Thats what it all boils down to - responsibility. People (and the government) need to be more fiscally responsible. Americans seem to like instant gratification with little thought for the future costs.
